How it works
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL), a.k.a. photofacial, uses light energy to target unwanted pigments in the skin. Unlike lasers, the IPL device emits more than one wavelength of pulsating light, thereby treating a range of skin conditions at one time. This treatment can undo signs of sun damage, known as photoaging. It’s effective against brown pigmentation, red and broken blood vessels, acne, cherry angiomas, and other unwanted red and brown blemishes of the face and other areas of the body that are exposed to the sun.
What to expect
There is minimal to no downtime with the IPL Photofacial, as the light energy does not affect surrounding tissues of the targeted areas. Most patients report very little discomfort – the light pulses feeling similar to rubber band snap – so a topical anesthetic is usually not needed. Because the heating process will stimulate your skin cells to regenerate new collagen, vibrantly smooth and youthful skin awaits you.
